James Morrison is coming to Williamstown as this year’s special guest for the 18th Last Night of the Proms.

James Morrison is, by anybody’s standard, a virtuoso in the true sense of the word. Besides the trumpet, this multi-instrumentalist also plays piano, all the brass, saxophones, and double bass.

The name “James Morrison” is known throughout the world for his sheer brilliance as a jazz musician and an all round entertainer. He is constantly on the move, touring everywhere and anywhere fine music has an audience. His recordings are best sellers and James works with the cream of the world’s best performers. Ray Brown called him “The Genius” and Dizzy Gillespie called him “One of The Best” but Wynton Marsalis summed it up: “Man, James Morrison can play!”

James will be joined by Harry Morrison (bass), William Morrison (guitar) and Patrick Danao (drums).

The concert will also feature the combined talents of the Western Region Concert Band, Rosa McCarty, and SingWest.

Modelled on the famous Last Night of the Proms held annually in England, this event will feature popular classics followed by the ‘traditional series’ of British patriotic pieces such as Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1” (Land of Hope and Glory), “Fantasy on British Sea Songs”, Arne’s “Rule, Britannia!” and Parry’s “Jerusalem”.

Prommers (the name given to people that attend Proms concerts) join in by dressing up, waving flags, singing along, making noise and having a great time.

A very popular event, this is the 18th year that Proms has been held in Williamstown. One night only!
